Obituary

The Reverend Sylvia B. Jordan transitioned from her earthly tabernacle to her heavenly home on Sunday, January 21, 2024. She was born on October 16, 1953, in Franklin, Virginia to the late Timothy A. Banks, Sr. and Marjorie B. Darden. She was the third child born to this union. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her granddaughter, LaKisha Denise Milteer and her sister, Sharon B. Hill.

She accepted Christ at an early age at Hickory Grove AME Zion Church and was baptized on September 1,1963 at the Sedley Mill Pond under the leadership of the late Reverend Claudius D. Miles. As a child she participated in the Junior Choir and Sunday School.

Reverend Sylvia B. Jordan leaves to cherish her memory; three daughters: Benita Everett (Dwayne) of Courtland, VA; Vakisha Freeman of Washinton, NC and Shuquana Hammond, who moved back to Franklin from Charlotte, NC to be her mother's caregiver. One grandson, James "LJ" Milteer (Shelby) of Newsome, VA; three granddaughters: Yvonda Babb, Lavonda Milteer and Renita Babb all of Courtland, VA; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters: Marion E. Banks-Wiggins of Como, NC, Rev. Purlie E. Banks of Franklin, VA and Dr. Charlene B. Artis (Milton) of Suffolk, VA; one brother, Timothy A. Banks, Jr. of Franklin, VA; three aunts: Deaconess Pecola N. Councill, Minister Ella Theresa Parker of Franklin, VA and Ms. Marion Small of High Point, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Reverend Sylvia B. Jordan will be missed because she made an impact on all with whom she encountered. We miss her now and our hearts are sore, and as time goes by, we will miss her more. Her laughter and her smiling face, no one will be able to fill her vacant place.

A viewing will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. in the Elvin Vaughan Memorial Chapel, 1717 South St. in Franklin, Virginia 23851. The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Hickory Grove AME Zion Church, 1419 Mariner St. in Franklin, Virginia 23851.
