Obituary

Marc O'Neil Braswell, 51, born May 29, 1971, departed this life Friday, February 17, 2023.  He was predeceased in death by his grandparents, Mr. Shirley and Mrs. Louise Faltz -Turner of Sedley, Virginia; his biological father, Mr. Rainey Williams of Sedley, Virginia and stepfather Mr. Richard Braswell who officially adopted through marriage at a young age.

Marc attended Newport News Public Schools in his youthful educational years and later attended Southampton High School.  Marc grew up and sustained his Christian values and principles.  Marc loved Christ and it was demonstrated in his joyful smile, his jovial attitude and his ability to gain friends along his journey in life.

Marc traveled across the United States performing work as an Ironman/Tower Hand and later went on to create his own contract business in this arena.  Marc was provided an opportunity to work in Alaska and always wanted to take his sons to see the Northern Lights. He was a huge New York Giants fan.  Marc enjoyed drawing, wrestling, creating videos and rapping/singing mostly about his family and friends.  Marc created a music album in dedication to family and close friends.  He loved music, especially hip hop.  He was a great narrator of a good scary story.  In addition, he loved playing board games that was set in Biblical times.  Marc was, simply, a good-hearted country man and loved his birthplace of Sedley, Virginia (Southampton County, Virginia) and this was known to him as "HILLTOWN".  He knew he was home when he heard his Aunt Diane Turner's voice calling him "Go-Go Deal".

Marc and his two boys called themselves "The Three Rangers".   Michael was the mastermind behind the name.  Marc created and drew many characters of whom Marc knew in real-life and was working on a script for their movie.  Michael's phrase for his father was "He's not perfect, but he was enough".   As Marc, Michael and Noah would work on the script, they would place their hands on top of one another and say "ONE FOR ALL; ALL FOR ONE".   Noah indicates that his father, Marc, was strong to the finish- Ranger One (1) - Michael, Ranger Two (2)-Noah and Ranger Three (3)-Marc.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories his mother, Shirley Ann Turner of Suffolk, Virginia; brother, Richard LaRahn Braswell of Miami, Florida; a very special friend and mother of his children, Jazzy Foster of Raleigh, North Carolina; two sons, Michael O'Neil and Noah Braswell, both of Raleigh, North Carolina. Marc was blessed to have many aunts and uncles: Aunts - Queen Elizabeth Bryant, Diane Turner, Brenda Smith, Annette Turner-Hicks, Jeanette Stith, Maxine Turner-Williams, Dorothy Barnes, Diane Braswell, Jean Allie Braswell-Leonard, Pamela Braswell, Gladys Bradshaw-Faltz and Ethel Braswell. Uncles - Robert Turner, Melvin Turner, Linwood Eugene Turner Sr., Herbert Bryant, Milton Williams, Randolph Braswell, Napoleon Braswell, Wayne Braswell and Eugene Bradshaw. Marc was an uncle to his nephew Javonious Bailey of Hopewell, Virginia. In addition, Marc had a beautiful host of loving cousins and dear friends.

Marc will be missed by his amazing sons, his mother, his intimate family and dear friends.   We thank each and every one who reach out to provide support, encouragement and prayers during this difficult time.  We are indeed humbled by your kindness, grateful for your deeds and appreciative of your efforts.

Marc's final request was cremation. There will be a memorial service at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2023 in the Elvin Vaughan Memorial Chapel, 1717 South St in Franklin, VA 23851. The interment will be at 13316 Saint Luke Drive, Sedley, Virginia 23878.
