Mr. James "Johnny" Dempsey, 70, of Bertie Colerain, NC, born on September 2, 1953 to the late Rubel and Zenora Perry Dempsey, passed on July 18, 2024 in Suffolk, VA. He was predeceased by the love of his life Ruby Skinner. To that union, they had one son, Travis Dempsey. After 15 years of employment with Franklin Equipment Company, Johnny moved to a less strenuous job and became the groundskeeper with Paul D. Camp Community College where he retired in 2018.

Johnny leaves behind his beloved son Travis; daughter-in-law Joelle; six grandchildren Ti'Juan, Sha'kwon, Cameron, Ava, Amiyah and Carter; two brothers Delhart and Ruben Dempsey; one sister Mary Jones; four sisters-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024 at 1 p.m. at the Greater Oak Grove Baptist Church, 35441 South Quay Rd in Franklin, Virginia 23851.
