Mr. Irvin Filmore Granger, affectionately known as Phil, departed this life on Saturday, February 24, 2024, in St. Mary's Hospital of Richmond, VA. He was born on September 13, 1948, in Southampton County, to the late Urquhart and Mary Granger.

Phil graduated from Riverview High School in 1966 and briefly attended Norfolk State University before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He courageously served this country during the Vietnam War.  After serving in the military, Phil settled in Baltimore, MD where he dedicated over 30 years of his life to the U.S. Postal Service before retiring. He resided in Baltimore, MD for 50 years before returning to his hometown in Newsoms, VA in September 2021.

Known for his soft-spoken nature and sharp wit, Phil had a remarkable ability to bring laughter to those around him. He will be fondly remembered for his quick humor and memorable quips.

Phil is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brothers Rudolph and Emmett "Bird".

Phil will be lovingly remembered by his wife Doris, daughter Tasha, son Darian, stepdaughter Tracey, sister Hilda, two grandchildren Tasheka and Tyler, three great-grandchildren Amiya, Alaina, and Andreus. He also leaves behind six nieces Gevonia, Gilda, Candace, Jeamis, Makhya, and Mahogany, two nephews Carlos and Dylan, a special friend Kenny and a host of cousins and friends.

Phil's presence will be deeply missed but his memory will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

A viewing will held on Friday, March 1, 2024 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. in the Elvin Vaughan Memorial Chapel, 1717 South St. in Franklin, VA 23851. A funeral service will be held noon on Saturday, March 2, 2024 in the Elvin Vaughan Memorial Chapel.
